Bookkeep was founded in 2018 as a bookkeeping firm in Brooklyn. While managing the books for local businesses, we quickly realized how much time and accuracy were lost to manual data entry. In December 2019, we launched our first app in the QuickBooks App Store to automate Square accounting—and Bookkeep was born.
When COVID accelerated the shift to ecommerce, we responded by expanding fast—rolling out Shopify and Amazon integrations in 2020 to help merchants and accountants keep pace.
By May 2021, with more than 25 integrations in market, we closed our first seed round led by Lerer Hippeau Ventures.
Today, Bookkeep has grown into the de facto financial operations platform for unified commerce, delivering true financial clarity for Shopify brands and the accountants who support them. From multi-location retailers to multi-channel ecommerce giants, leading businesses rely on Bookkeep to unify data, automate revenue accounting, streamline sales tax, and reconcile payouts across channels.
We’ve evolved from a small Brooklyn bookkeeping shop into the category leader powering financial clarity for the modern commerce ecosystem.
